Let´s Go For a Drive by Mo Williams

 


Let´s Go For a Drive by Mo Willems is the winner of a 2013 Geisel Award.  It is about two characters, Gerald and Piggie.  Gerald is always very careful, and Piggie is not.  They are best friends and Gerald does all the worrying for Piggie.  In Let´s Go for a Drive, Gerald and Piggie decide to hit the road.  Gerald makes sure they have everything they may possibly need: a map, sunglasses, umbrella, and of course the car.  However, neither of them have one.  Readers will enjoy reading this fun loving book to find out how Gerald and Piggie solve their problem!

Charlie and Mouse by Laurel Snyder


 Charlie and Mouse is written by Laural Snyder and illustrated by Emily Hughes.  It is the winner of the 2018 Geisel Award.  It is a great beginner´s chapter book about two imaginative brothers, Charlie and Mouse.  Readers can follow along with them as they do silly things, such as talk to lumps, take the neighborhood to a party, and invent the bedtime banana.  Charlie and Mouse shows a fun loving and close brotherhood bond that readers can relate to.

The Book Hog by Greg Pizzoli

 


The Book Hog by Greg Pizzoli is the winner of the 2020 Geisel Award.  It is a fun loving book about a book hog that is obssessed with books.  He loves the way they look, feel, and smell.  He loves to collect them, however he has a secret - he doesn´t know how to read.  Then one day he discovers the library.  He meets a kind and inspirational librarian that, with practice, teaches him how to read.  The Book Hog will share the magic of reading and inspire a love for books!

Flubby is Not a Good Pet! by J.E. Morris

 


Flubby is Not a Good Pet! is written and illustrated by J.E. Morris and is a 2020 Geisel Honor book.  Flubby is a big, lazy cat who refuses to do things that other pets do.  He doesn´t like to sing, catch, or jump.  He doesn´t even run when it rains.  One day Flubby gets scared from a thunderstorm and he and his owner realize that they need each other.  This makes Flubby a good pet after all.

Stop! Bot! by James Yang

 


Stop! Bot! is written and illustrated by James Yang.  It is the winner of the 2020 Geisel Award for most distinguished American book for young readers.  A young boy lives in the city and one day he goes for a walk with his family.  He stops to show the doorman his bot.  Suddenly it begins to float towards the sky.  He yells, ¨Stop, Bot!¨ and the doorman runs up to each floor of the building to try to catch it, along with the help of residents.  Many different people, such as musicians and baseball players try to help.  Even zoo animals start to help.  Readers will enjoy reading to find out if they are able to catch the bot before it is too late.

The Bear in My Family by Maya Tatsukawa

 


The Bear in My Family is written and illustrated by Maya Tatsukawa.  It is a Geisel award winning book about a young boy who compares his sister to a bear.  He describes her as loud, messy, and too strong and is confused why his family treats the ¨bear¨ as a part of the family.  One day the boy encounter some bullies on the playground, and the bear roars with all her might and scares them away.  He realizes that having a ¨bear¨ in the family may not be so bad after all.  Readers with an overbearing sibling will be sure to connect to this fun loving story.

Ball by Mary Sullivan

 


Ball by Mary Sullivan was awarded a 2014 Geisel Honor Award.  Kids will love to read about a relentless dog that is obsessed with having his ball thrown.  After his owner, a young girl, leaves for school he will stop at nothing to have his ball thrown.  He begs him yoga mom, the baby, and even the cat to throw his ball.  Until finally, he tries to play a one sided game of fetch.  Ball is a hilarious read with comic style illustrations.
